History

At the foot of the village, where the present day Chateau of Moncé is situated, there was formerly a Cistercian abbey founded in 1209 of which the gate pillars remain. A little higher, in the Cellars of Moncé the CATROUX family have handed down their vines, their accrued experience and their traditions for more than a century. Maison

History

The vineyards

Des vignes Our family plots of land cover some fifteen hectares of vines at Limeray. These are situated on the best areas of the flinty clay soils, suited to the production of full-bodied red wines and of fruity whites and rosés. We grow the different varieties of the Amboise region: Côt (or Malbec), Cabernet Franc and Gamay for the reds and rosés, Chenin Blanc (or Pineau de la Loire), Sauvignon and Chardonnay for the whites.
We similarly own a small vineyard at Rochecorbon in the heart of the Vouvray region whose soil lends itself to the production of Chenin Blanc. Des vignes
Des vignes For some years, in a concern for quality, we have worked our vineyards carefully by methods which respect the environment and the soil. This special care allows us to regularly harvest our grapes at the point of optimum maturity.

The cellars

Our cellars have been dug out of the rock over centuries. They include various galleries dug out for the tufa stone, used for building, and enlarged for the needs of wine production. The cellars also include several troglodyte rooms where many generations of inhabitants have lived. Pupitres de Vin
Cuves de Vin These have been converted, and often modified for wine making. This includes harvesting and pressing the grapes, maturing the wine, bottling, storage and packaging as well as sales. The temperature remains constant throughout the year with high humidity, an ideal combination for the conservation of wine.
